For tomorrow, complete all of your Subject/Verb Agreement packet. These will be collected at the beginning of class. If you missed today, get a packet tomorrow and turn it in Wednesday.
In case you missed it earlier, there is an extra credit opportunity posted below. The free 2 tweet points points will expire at midnight tonight. Hey there, snowbirds. Just in case you get a little bored while trapped at home again tomorrow, here is a little competition to keep you occupied... and hopefully win you some free points. Go to the Writing & Grammar section of your Junior English notebook in OneNote, then do the following:
* Glance through the following pages you created: Nouns, Verbs, Conjunctions, and Interjections. * Obviously, your notes, should be complete, but make sure they are well organized. They should be in a logical order/placement, but also consider text size and color and font as well that might enhance the organized feel of the pages. * Are there any examples you could come up with to add to and strengthen our definitions? * Now see what might be added to the pages to make them more appealing, visually. Don't go overboard and don't cause a distraction from your notes, but rather make them come to life. * When you're finished, add a comment to this post, saying "My notes look better than yours!" (Be sure to include your name.) Mr. Tucker will pick the winners based on the organization and completeness of notes, along with the overall visual appeal of the pages. Here is what the winners get: 1st Place- One free 20 point quiz. Your choice. Just pick a quiz to get an automatic perfect score on. 2nd Place- 10 points to add wherever needed in your 3rd quarter scores. (two winners) 3rd Place- 5 points to add wherever needed in your 3rd quarter scores. (three winners) Want 2 free points guaranteed? Tweet this web page to your classmates and mention @icemantuck and the points are yours. For those of you who are putting snapshots of notebook pages and whiteboard projections in your OneNote sections, there is a better way to capture usable photos. Most of you don't own a Windows Phone, which has a nifty built-in app called Office Lens. It turns your phone into a sort of scanner, producing much more usable images of papers and whiteboards. However, the OneNote app for iOS has the same functionality built into it, so give it a try.
CLICK HERE Today is TEST DAY!!!
Be sure to bring a pencil to class. Today we are taking the repeat of your verbs definitions test. Remember, you get to choose which of the two will be put in the grade book. :-) Hopefully, you prepared yourself for today's quiz! We are going over the practice test that was taken in class yesterday. You will also get a new (small) packet that covers subject/verb agreement. Remember that when things agree, they are the same. Remember that a Singular Subject requires a Singular Verb, and that a Plural Subject requires a Plural Verb. Verbs are kind of the opposite from nouns in that a singular verb ends with an S and a plural verb does not. If you miss today, complete the attached handout for tomorrow. ![]()

Here is a handout given today to hopefully clear up some confusion with identifying verb phrases. This is a list of helping verbs. When identifying the words in a verb phrase, refer to this list. If a suspected helping verb is not on this list, then it is NOT a helping verb.
For homework, all classes are finishing their verb packets. Looking ahead: Next Wednesday and Thursday, Ms. Krisher will be speaking to us. You MUST be here those days. There is important paperwork to fill out. Finishing up yesterday's activity, you need to add up ALL of the expenses listed on your paper, numbers 2 through 15. Draw a box around that total, which is an estimate of your monthly living expenses. Now, for number one, you estimated what you’d pay a year in taxes that would be deducted from our paychecks. For a single person making $50k a year, 17.5% is about what you’d figure to have deducted in federal taxes. Subtracted from our $50k salary, that gives us a net income of $41,250. (Keep in mind, we’re not even calculating local and state taxes yet.) Other income taxes will depend on the state in which you are living, as well as your specific county and city rates. An extra $3,000 off your gross salary would be pretty accurate, but to keep the math easy, let’s just take out $2,250 for the year in state and local income taxes. That leaves all of us with a grand total of $39,000 as a take-home salary for the year. Write down that figure on your paper and put a box around it. So now…divide that $39,000 by twelve and you end up with a monthly take-home income. Write that number below your take home amount. This is your monthly take-home estimate. Now, subtract your total expenses from that monthly take-home amount, then write that total below your other answers and circle it. (Hopefully, you are not in the negative.) Today you are going to be working on the computers. In your JUNIOR ENGLISH OneNote notebook, you need go to the Writing and Grammar section. (It's the purple tab, if you set your notebook up correctly.) In this section of your notebook, you need to create a page for each part of speech that we have studied thus far. (Nouns, Pronouns, Conjunctions, Interjections, and Verbs.) On each page, you should place all of the class notes that we have taken/studied regarding each part of speech. This is due by Sunday night before midnight. Mr. Tucker will publish another list tomorrow of the people who CORRECTLY shared their JUNIOR ENGLISH notebooks with him. If you aren't on the list, you need to dig into last semesters instructions and get it taken care of! Also, you will be searching and gathering some information using the attached documents. Where should you keep your answers? Yep--you guessed it...OneNote! Go to the Research Paper section of your notebook. (It's the green tab if you set your notebook up according to directions last semester.) Name your first page in this section Web Researching Practice. On this page, answer each question on the handout. (Yes--number them just like the handout.) With each answer, you need to copy and paste the URL for each site where you found that answer. (Put in a line or two below your answer--not right beside it.) ![]()
Today, you need to complete the tasks within the attached PowerPoint: ![]()
