Today we took a quiz over Act 4 of The Crucible. Then, we answered and discussed the following:
A)What was your reaction to the choice that John Proctor made at the end of the story? Were you surprised by his actions or did you predict that’s what would happen? B)Do you think most people in this room would sign a false confession to save their lives? Explain why you think so. C)Do you think most of the teachers in this school would sign to save their lives? Why? Name a few whom you think would not sign. D)Would you sign a false confession to something horrible in order to save your own life? Why? E)Using what you know from the play and about the Puritans , why do you think John Proctor chose not to save his life by signing the confession? F)Kind of a totally different direction here, but write a brief response to the overall story of The Crucible. Discuss why you did or did not like this story. If you had to sum up the theme (or the message) of this story in a 4 word sentence, what would it be? I) Why do you think so many people in Salem were willing to support the arrests, trials, and executions that took place? Remember, you have a test over the whole play tomorrow! Check back here this evening for some study tips for the test. Today we took a quiz over Act 3 of The Crucible. If you missed it, you need to stay tomorrow or Monday and take a makeup version of it. After the quiz, we had a class discussion over the question on the attached .ppt file, then began reading Act 4. (We did not get very far, though.)
Today you are back on the computers. Hopefully, all will run smoothly this time. If you did not have luck last Friday, then today we are giving it another go. For starters, try this online method of accessing OneNote instead of the computer software. open the attached file and follow the step-by-step instructions. Please make certain to FOLLOW the instructions. If you do not do so, your grade will be affected.
Some of you created the notebook successfully but did not share it the correct way. If you did not email me a share link (and instead sent me an invitation), then you did not follow the instructions. You need to do this correctly or you will NOT be getting a grade for this activity! Due tomorrow is the following worksheet:
Today we are finishing Act 3. If you need a copy of it, click the link below to download. At the end of the act, you need to answer the following questions to turn in tomorrow: Comp Check, 2, 3, 4, and 6. REMEMBER: Tomorrow you must have a personal Microsoft account to complete our in-class activity in the computer lab! Yes, this will affect your grade if you are unable to complete the activity because you have not taken care of this small task in the past four days. Today we are working with OneNote. Open the document below and follow the instructions.
NOTICE: My apologies, but once again it appears the technology at BGHS is not working as it should. In theory, your school email account should work for this, but many people had issues. So...it looks as though you are going to need to create a personal Microsoft account. Do so here: MS Account I know, the last thing you need is another email account to keep up with. However, just use your regular personal email address as the login name, and you can use the same password as well. For example, my Microsoft account username is [email protected] and my password is the same as my gmail password. That way, there is nothing new for me to remember. Because of some glitches the school technology is presenting, you may have to complete this assignment as homework. I apologize for those who are unable to complete at school, as this is not your fault. The good news is that my 1st period students who were using personal accounts were able to complete this in about 10 minutes, so it isn't a big deal. Looks like you just need that personal account first. Do NOT complete steps 7 and 8 if you are having issues in the lab today. Wait until you set up your notebook using a personal account. Curious if your PSA uploaded? Here is the list of those turned in: Today we are in the library for our final day of PSA video editing. Remember, your project is due by 11:59 tonight! For tomorrow, please make sure that you can do one of the following: A) Log into your school e-mail account, or B) Log into a personal Microsoft account. You will end up with a zero on tomorrow's in-class activity if you can not do one of the following. Either in class today (if you aren't editing) or as homework, answer the following prompts. Answer in complete sentences. Some of you who skimp on words to answer these prompts need to realize that your points for the assignment will be equally skimpy. In Act 2 of The Crucible, we learn that John Proctor did indeed have an affair with Abigail Williams. (Apparently, they did touch...) Share your views on the following: 1. In a relationship, is it possible to love someone and still cheat on him/her? 2. If someone has been cheated on, can he/she ever completely forgive the significant other? Or, will he/she always carry some hurt and resentment over the affair for the life of the relationship? Explain why or why not? 3. Once a cheater, always a cheater? Explain. 4. After an affair, can a relationship ever be a good, healthy one? Explain why you think the way you do. 5. When people screw up in a relationship, what are some of the things they might do to try to gain forgiveness from their significant other? 6. If you had been cheated on and were staying in the relationship, what would be your “formula” for your spouse to follow in order for him/her to gain redemption and trust again? Today you need to turn in your Act 2 homework, and then take a quiz over the act. Below is a writing prompt you need to complete if you miss class today. (A response to John Proctor in Act 2.)
Today we are in the library. This is your LAST day to do any filming during class time. (You are more than welcome to stay after school, however. Tomorrow the ESS bus can even take you home.) Please make sure that you look over all of the requirements of the video, including the rubric. That tells you exactly how your group will get the grade you end up with. Click here to upload your FINISHED video project: Do NOT upload a file until you are certain that you are finished. Also, I am testing the uploader today to see if it will handle various file sizes. If needed, I will be posting a different upload method later today. (So far, a file 185MB and smaller works.) Homework Assignment for Wednesday:
Read Act of The Crucible. Here it is, or see Mr. Tucker if you need a hard copy. At the end of the act, answer the following: Comp Check, 2, 4, and 5 Today (and tomorrow) we are in the library and in our small groups to work on our PSA video project. PLEASE READ ALL OF THE PSA VIDEO INFORMATION POSTED HERE PREVIOUSLY BEFORE YOU GET STARTED! If your group is going to be filming at school today or tomorrow, you must do so under the instruction of Mr. Tucker. We do this one at a time, first come, first served. If you just disappear in the building to film, you will be written up for skipping. This isn't a research paper turned video, but you are required to include some factual information/stats about your topic in the video. It could be mentioned by an actor, through a voice over, or with text. It doesn't matter how, but back up your fear with a little fact. At the end of the video, after everything is over, you will have a credit roll. In it, you need to identify the source(s) of your information. If a web site, cite the NAME of the WEB SITE--do NOT copy and paste the URL. Also in the credits should be the first name of each group member and anyone else who was a part of the video. Beside each name, identify the person's role in the video production. Some people may have had more than one role, so list it all. IMPORTANT: The first thing you need to do today is create a shared folder on either DropBox or OneDrive. Using their email addresses, share the folder with everyone in your group. That way, everyone in the group has access to the project at any time, from any location...even if the person who created the folder is absent. In this folder, place all of the video clips you film, as well as the project file for the video you are editing. If you don't know how to create a shared folder, search online. There's only a thousand web sites that will explain it to you. Folder/file sharing is a skill you are required to have for this class this year. If you are using the library computers for video editing, the program is called Windows Live Movie Maker. It's not the best, but it is fairly easy to use and works well enough for what we are doing. Make sure you save the project as you are working. Actors: When you speak, speak loudly and clearly. Cameramen: When you film, make sure there is a pause between hitting the record button and your actors doing their thing. Also, if using a phone, hold the phone in landscape view!!!!! It should be obvious, but there should be no cussing in your video. |
