Some of you have not completed your ILP profiles. Names and usernames are posted below. If you need your password, see Mr. Tucker. Go to www.careercruising.com/ilp to complete.
Today we are in the theatre, going over registration for your senior year classes. Below is a download of the curriculum guide, if you need, to use as a reference when scheduling. ![]()
As announced in August (and in your class info packet), you are responsible for purchasing one paperback for this school year. Obviously, you have had enough time to save five or six dollars...being that it's been seven months since you were told you'd be expected to do this after spring break. By April 14, you need to obtain a copy of the novel That Was Then, This Is Now by author S.E. Hinton and bring it to class on that day.
If you go to Barnes & Noble, the book will cost you $9.99. However, there are a ton of used copies of the book that you can purchase online. Click HERE and this online book seller has many copies of the book for under $4, shipped. There is always eBay as well, if you or someone in your house has an eBay account. No one has any excuse for not being able to come up with $4 over the course of half a year! Order/buy now--do not wait until the last minute! Special note: If you have no way to order online--no one in your family has a credit card--Mr. Tucker will order the book for you, provided you pay him FIRST for the actual price of the order AND you do so no later than April 3. 3rd and 4th periods will be purchasing a different title, which will be announced tomorrow. If you missed today's test, make plans to take it before or after school on Monday, or before school on Tuesday. After that you have one additional day to take the alternate, short answer version of the test. I am passing the tests from today (and Monday's makeups) back to everyone on Tuesday.
TEST TOMORROW!!! Here is a review session. Look over the quizzes that were returned today and/or yesterday, as well. BRING A PENCIL! ![]()
Today we have a quiz over chapters 5 & 6.
Also, answer the following questions: 1. At the end of the story, Kino offers the pearl to Juana for her to throw into the sea. What is significant about his doing this? 2. Juana indicates that Kino should be the one who throws the pearl back into the water. Why do you think she feels this way? (What’s its significance?) 3. The Pearl dealt with Kino and his people being discriminated against on three counts: because of their race, because of their poverty, and because of their lack of education. Give an example of and discuss how each of these is present within the novel. Then, explain why, in your opinion, one of the three is the most damaging form to Kino and his people. 4. How do you feel about the gender roles observed in the book by Kino and Juana? Describe what you think is the ideal gender role structure/observance in modern day relationships. When you are an adult in a long tern relationship, how close do you think your relationship will fit that ideal? We took a quiz today over chapters 3 and 4. If you missed it, you need to make it up before or after school ASAP. Today we read chapters 5 and 6. Yes, you have a quiz over those two chapters tomorrow. They are posted below: ![]()

We will take a test over the whole book on Friday!!! In case you need a copy of Chapter 4, here it is: ![]()
HAPPY MONDAY!
Today we are reading Chapter 4 of The Pearl. If you missed Friday and you did not keep with the reading that posted here, then you have some pages to cover today. At the beginning of class tomorrow, we will begin with a quiz over chapters 3 and 4. Today we are in the English Lab. (Which is where most of you are reading this.) You will have the opportunity to complete the OneNote assignment given on Friday. If you finished the web research assignment from Friday, then you have the entire period to read The Pearl. If you were absent on Friday, then scroll down one entry and see what you missed. After the first 5 minutes of lab time, we will enter SILENT MODE! For today, try using the desktop version of OneNote instead of the web site version of it. If the shortcut doesn't show on your desktop, click on the start button and type in OneNote into the search. After the program opens, you will need to go to the top right corner of the window and click on the little drop-down arrow beside your name. Select Switch Account, and enter your personal account info. With the desktop version (and most tablet app versions), when you copy and paste content from a web site, the program automatically tags it with the site's URL. Don't forget, the desktop version, and all of Microsoft Office, is free to download onto your home computers. REMINDER: Report cards came out Friday. If you got a D or an F in this class, then you are not allowed to use your cell phone in class at all during this 4th quarter! |
