Today we are in the library for the period. This is your second and last day to work on your two assignments that are due tomorrow. Remember, for your note card assignment, write your info on the blank side--not the lined side. Use the space wisely. Add a little color if you want. For the newspaper front page, be sure that you have an article that completely captures the who/what/when/where of your trail/crime. For a couple of the templates, you may need to make the image smaller in order to create more space for the article. If there's no way your article fits on the template you are using, then choose a different one!

Today we are in the library, on the computers. You were told about two assignments yesterday that are due this Friday. For the first, refer to yesterday's post for specifics. For the newspaper article, here ya go:
You have in your hand the name of a trial from history. Some are recent and some from way in the past. If, after a little research, you want to trade, you may do so with either a classmate or Mr. Tucker. Your task is to spend some time today researching the specifics of the trial and begin forming a simple report on it. The finished product will be due at the beginning of class on Friday. It must appear as the front page story of a newspaper. Write the story as though it IS news—in that year. Here are the guidelines: -It must be a complete report of the trial, formatted into a newspaper page. -It should contain a picture that goes with the trial. -Your name should be written on the back of the paper. -The front page should contain at least two more story leads that might have run at the time of your trial. -The story should make clear: * Who is on trial * What the accusations are * Important/Unique information about the trial * What the verdict was * Public reaction to the verdict --If you are not in class today, email me for your topic! This is due on Friday regardless of any missed days this week! Today is your quiz over NOUNS. If you missed it, you will need to take a makeup before or after school through Wednesday. After the quiz, we went over our information. Posted today and due this Friday: •You must do a little research and find out what our current for-real legal consequences are for 10 of the 25 crimes listed on the previous slide. Each crime + punishment should be written on an index card or similarly sized piece of paper. (Your name on the back.) Yes, KY/USA/BGHS. We don’t care what they do to criminals in France or Peru or India or… --You will use the list from our slide show, which is also posted below. One of the ten you research MUST be the same as your desk number in class. The other nine are up to you. •Research and create a newspaper front page story about a famous trial from history. We are NOT actually starting this today, but do be aware of it. Tomorrow I will give you a strip of paper with your topic. I have already shared a folder with you that has several newspaper front page templates to use. ("Thanks, Mr. Tucker!") Here is the list of crimes:

Today's assignment is to complete the attached worksheet packet for tomorrow. ![]()
Today we covered some new terms/definitions in class that you will need to catch tomorrow in class! These will be essential to have written in your notes! We played a "game" today...and you'll just have to hear about it if you are not at school today. However, you can view the attached presentation: ![]()
If have a D or an F for 1st quarter in this class, you are not allowed to have/use a cell phone during the class period for the rest of the semester.
As stated in our class policy for personal device possession/use, students must maintain at least a C in the class to be allowed to have an electronic device in class. Obviously, if you are one of these students, you can reclaim your phone use by raising your grade to a C for the 2nd quarter. Watch this video. CLICK HERE
Then, answer the following: 1.What was your overall reaction to this news story? 2.Why do you think we so easily believe the testimony of children? 3.Do you think any case based solely on testimony is too unclear to convict someone without reasonable doubt? 4.Why do you think people believed the crazy stories the children told? 5.How do you think this case so easily got out of control? Watch each of the following video clips. After each, write a brief summary on a sheet of paper that explains each theory. (Clip 1 starts by mentioning a few theories, but then focuses on one in particular.) Now, after watching each clip, write a brief paragraph in which you explain (based in the info you watched) what you think is the most logical explanation for the cause(s) of the Salem Witch Trials.
Today we complete the activity we were supposed to do yesterday. For instructions on what you are doing, simply scroll down to the "Search & Gather" post and follow...
If for some reason you do not complete this assignment in class, it is homework for the weekend. |
