IF you purchased a physical copy of the take-home novel you were required to get on your own, AND you aren't wanting to keep or re-sell it on eBay, you can turn it in for some extra points. These points are averaged into your QTR 4 grade--not added to it, so don't think a book donation will get you a full letter grade jump. Points are points, though, and every little bit helps. Stop by the classroom and look at the message on the board for more info, if you didn't see it today.
I know some of you acquired a digital copy of the book. Sorry, but I can't help you there. Research paper and 1960s mobile grades will be entered tomorrow and/or Friday. If you want to keep your mobile, come by the room after school and I'll get it down for you. Final exam grades should all be entered by noon tomorrow! Quarter 4 and overall grade averages will not be posted in IC until Friday afternoon. FIRST PERIOD: Here are some prep resources for the final exam tomorrow. Again, be sure and bring a pencil. All of my loaner pencils have been stolen, and I am not buying any to put in the box for finals week. ![]()
Check back tomorrow for study helpers for Tuesday's final exam!
-Hope you are having a good 3-day weekend. For those of you who are turning in your paper via OneNote, here is some info for you. I meant to post this for you yesterday, but I've been trapped in rural Mississippi since Friday afternoon with no cell signal or wifi. Anyway, here you go... * As previously mentioned, you must have the desktop version of OneNote installed on your computer. Need it, click HERE. * Open OneNote and let it sync all your files after logging in. (Make sure you are using the desktop program and NOT the web site. Make sure you are connecting OneNote to the account you used to create the notebook you SHARED with me.) * In your Junior English notebook, create a new section called Finished Project. * You must have your research paper saved as one continuous Word document. Please make sure it fits the format given previously in class. * Select Print, just like you were going to print to a printer. * Make sure for the printer it says Send To OneNote 2013. * Click Print. * Your screen will switch over to OneNote. You will select the print location to be Finished Project (current section). * Click OK, and you are good to go. It will "print" your finished paper to OneNote. (If for some reason you "printed" it to a different section in your OneNote notebook, simply copy the page and paste it in the Finished Project section. Simple.) * After you do this successfully, send a quick email notice to [email protected] so I know which people have turned in their papers this way. You have until noon tomorrow to do this! Here are a couple things to help you out: ![]()

Do NOT worry about inserting a header of any sort. All you need to add to your pages will be page numbers. I am leaving school quickly today, so do not plan on working in the lab and then bringing your folder to me. I will be gone! You have until 3:10. That's it. If you read yesterday's post about the three different turn-in options, and you are wanting to go with the second option, I will post SOME information on how to do so after school today. If you struggle with figuring out new things and following how-to instructions, then this may not be the option for you. It's a pretty straightforward process, but some of you have struggled this school year with logging into email, so plan accordingly based on your own self-assessment. In order to turn your project in on Sunday, you MUST have the desktop version of OneNote installed--you can NOT use the OneNote web site. 1st PERIOD: Be sure and check the blog on Monday for a study guide for Tuesday's Final Exam!
BRING A PENCIL!!! Today you have a quiz over chapters 1-3 of the book. You will have some of the class period to read the rest of the novel for tomorrow. (Yes--quiz tomorrow.) You will have at least 30 minutes in the library tomorrow. If you need to print your research project, you can print. If you need to punch holes for the 3-tab folder, I will have a hole punch for you. Check the blog this afternoon for some last step reminders and guidelines. You have three options for turning in your research project: 1- Hand Mr. Tucker a printed version on Friday before 3:15. It must be in a 3-tab folder. 2- Create a Finished Project section in your OneNote Junior English notebook and "Print" the whole project to that section, just like it was being sent to an actual printer. (Do not copy/paste to it--use the print command.) You have until Midnight on Sunday night, May 24, to do so. 3- Hand it to Mr. Tucker in class on Tuesday in a 3-tab folder. There will be a 20% point deduction for turning it in past the due date. (So if the paper scores a 70%, you would get a 50% in IC.) ![]() If you are going to go with option 2 above, you will probably need the actual desktop program of OneNote. You cannot "print" to the web version. I am unsure if the mobile apps allowing printing to them. You been told a few times before how/where to get the full version of Microsoft Office for free, as a BGHS student... For tomorrow, you need to have finished chapters 1-3 of the book Of Mice and Men. We will have a quiz at the beginning of class, so come prepared! If you are not in class today, then answer the following on a sheet of paper and turn in tomorrow: •What do you know about life in America during the 1930s? •In America today, what percentage of people do you think are poorer than they’d like to be? •What percentage of Americans do you think, by definition, live in poverty? • What are three reasons why you think people live in poverty in the USA? •How does a person rise from a lower income bracket to a higher one in this country? •Is it going to be more difficult to get ahead for your generation than it has been for the past few? Explain… • “It is good—even necessary—to have unskilled, unspecialized workers in society.” Explain why this is true. The budget that you include in Section 2 must be a complete, thorough budget. We did a run-through of a monthly income/expenses budget two or three months ago. That is an obvious resource to use. As far as expenses, you need a breakdown of everything that will be costing you something. Obviously, you do not list individual items, like each Red Bull you buy, but rather categories. And remember--this is your adult life and not right now. Use the average salary for your occupation (gathered from more than just one source) and divide that into 12. That is your monthly income. Don't forget to deduct federal and state income tax from that, as you don't actually see all of the money you work for. If you are unsure of something then research it!
The following are some expenses you need to include: -student loan payments -mortgage/rent -car insurance -groceries -utilities -car payment -cell phone bill -tv/internet bill -entertainment/going out -household items -personal care -gasoline -health care -retirement -savings -clothes -if you plan to have pets, include food/medicine for it/them -etc. REMINDER: In two days, you need to bring the paperback novel to class that you were required to purchase. Yes, part of the final exam is over this book. Yes, you should def panic if you don't already have it.
