As announced at the beginning of the school year, you are required to purchase one paperback novel this semester. This will be for our last novel reading of the school year. The title of the book you need to purchase is Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck. You must have this book and bring it to class on May 20th. The libraries have limited copies, but that is a possibility for a few quick students. Barnes and Noble sells copies for $8 or $9, but you can also order a cheaper copy from their web site. The Half Price Book Store in town may or may not have copies of this book. This web site lists used books for sale, and several copies of the novel can be picked up for less than $4, shipped. I have had good luck with them before. eBay also offers an opportunity to buy cheap, used copies of the novel. If you are unable to order online because of not having access to a credit card, speak to Mr. Tucker before May 9 and he can order one for you, after you give him the cash to cover the cost of the book.
Obviously, if you wait until the last minute to look for a copy, you may not be able to find one locally. If you wait too late to order a copy online, it will not have time to be delivered to your mailbox. You were notified way back in August that you would need to purchase one paperback after spring break. Copies can be found for less than $5, so no one has an excuse to not have been able to save $5 over the past eight months. You have a full month to purchase/order the book from this notification, so time is not a valid excuse either to not have a copy on the 20th. Not having a copy of the book for whatever reason does not excuse you from work and quizzes we do in class. This is your responsibility. Anyone can save $5 over eight month's time, and there are several different options to obtain a cheap, used copy.
If ordering a used copy, do so in the next week and check this off your must-do list now. :-)
