As stated in our class policy for personal device possession/use, students must maintain at least a C in the class to be allowed to have an electronic device in class. Obviously, if you are one of these students, you can reclaim your phone use by raising your grade to a C for the 2nd quarter.
If have a D or an F for 1st quarter in this class, you are not allowed to have/use a cell phone during the class period for the rest of the semester.

The Crucible
Unfortunately, we will be about 10 minutes short of finishing The Crucible movie today, so we will have to wrap things up tomorrow. As mentioned before we started watching, you will be asked to share some observations after finishing the movie. Specifically, you will be asked the following tomorrow: * Identify two specific scenes in the movie that were not in the play at all. (Brand new scenes to the story--not scenes that happened differently.) For each, identify how you thought it either added to the story or how it took away from the story, as told in the play. * Identify three specific things that happened differently in the play versus th movie. * How did watching the story add to your understanding of the play that we read in class? * What was different about the way the movie ended, compared to the way the play ended? Explain why you think one was a more effective way to close the story. * What is the deal with "Because it is my name"? Why do you think Proctor chose to tear up his confession? Do you think people in our modern society value a good name as much as people in Proctor's day did? Explain why you think that way. You will also be asked to consider some possible reasons for how/why the real witch trials began and flourished in Salem. Remember--the play was based on history but NOT written to be historically accurate. Extra Credit Opportunity: Create a clean, attractive "mini poster" that's about 10"x15". Give it a title, include one picture/graphic on it, and state seven major differences between The Crucible and the real Salem Witch Trials that took place in 1692. Yes, use a little color, please. Obviously, the focus is on your 7 facts, but still make it look nice. This is worth up to 20 points that you can use anywhere (except the final exam) during 2nd quarter. Today you are taking a test over The Crucible. Yes, you need a pencil.
If you miss the test today, you will NOT be able to take it during club tomorrow because there is no club day this week. Three options for you: 1) Take it after school today, 2) Take it Wednesday morning before school, or 3) Take it the Monday we return from fall break after school. If it is not taken by then, it will be a zero in IC. If you go with option 2, you need to report to my classroom no later than 7:50 tomorrow morning. I will not be staying after school tomorrow for test make-ups. If you were unable to complete the OneNote assignment today in the computer lab, you need to do so this weekend as homework. Remember, you are going to have to create a personal microsoft account in order to do so. Follow the instructions in the previous post about the assignment--it has a link to create an account.
If you have Microsoft Office on your home computer, then you have OneNote on there. Even if it is a 10 year old version of Office, you can still set up your notebook and tabs as instructed in the instructions. You can download the free version of OneNote for your laptop/computer. Follow the link on the RESOURCES page of this blog. You can also access the free online version of OneNote, if you don't want to install anything. The free versions have limited features compared to the full one, but they will do everything you need for this activity and for class after the break. If you do not get yourself going with OneNote, it will result in you getting zeros on future assignments. There is no exception and no opt-out. I do apologize for the technology issues with the school computers today, but that doesn't mean you can ditch this requirement. If you did not upload the video file yesterday before the deadline, you can submit a makeup here:
Today is your last opportunity to register at the class message board. Points are given to those who signed up (following the instructions), and zeros are given to those who did not!
On this FRIDAY there will be an "app check" at the beginning of class. Remember that one of the conditions of the cell phone contract is that you have the OneNote app installed on your device. I will simple be asking everyone to get out his/her phone, open the app, and hold up the device so I can see the screen. If you don't have the app, you get an "X" marked against you. Three "X" marks and you lose the right to have an electronic device in my classroom for the rest of the quarter.
The first person to come to my room and say "Cluck Cluck" will get a card that's good for a free order of waffle fries at Chick-fil-A.
The District ID for the Infinite Campus phone app is
PDFZCH The first 5 people from each period to sign up for the class message board this weekend will each receive 5 extra points added to his/her first lit book quiz. When you sign up, your username must be your actual first name and last initial. For example, Billy Smith would have Billy S as his username. No other usernames will be allowed to register. We have some upcoming class activities that will use the class message board, so it is important to create an account and do so correctly.
