Quiz over chapters 1 and 2 today!
You do NOT have to read any new chapters in the book for tomorrow. :-)
You do need to re-read the last part of chapter 2, pages 35-41. Then, answer the following:
•The very first time I read this novel, I reached the part of the story where Connie said to kill Mike, and I honestly thought I had misread something. I went back and skimmed the passage again. Yup—that’s what she said. After going out of his way to help a stranger in need, that’s the thanks Mike got. He was a nice guy and was nearly beaten to death. I think what Connie did was horribly wrong. However, after a bit of pondering, I began to understand it. I never agreed with it—but I did understand it. So, here’s your task: Do some pondering of your own, then explain on paper why you think Connie had an innocent, nice guy beaten severely. Make specific references to the text. This is no empty opinion to ramble on with. It’s an analysis grounded in the text of the book. Write a solid paragraph. What was going on inside her that prompted her actions? Was it personal? Had it been a set-up or just something she did on a whim? What fueled her decision to do this to Mike? Do you think she later regretted what she did to Mike, or do you think she’d do it over again if given the chance? (Those are the kinds of things you need to be pondering…) ½ page minimum
